Basic Core Class

Every great practitioner, competitor, teacher, and champion began their journey the same way, as a beginner.

The class usually consists of three parts. A warm-up, technical instruction, and rolling(sparring). And is taught in a group setting, in this case, consisting of mostly blue and white belts organized by rank.

The intention is to produce an environment where students can text and learn about themselves without injuring each other.

Here the student will get their first taste of BJJ by going through several common movements in the art by following the class warm-up.

It is not uncommon for a student to struggle with some these exercises or drills, and it is important to remember to be patient. The focus is very much on learning and growing as opposed to competing or finishing quickly.

Next, students are taught some of the basic concepts for practicing bjj, such as keeping a good base and always protecting your head or face.

Usually, the instructor will show one or two basic techniques to the group to further introduce the students to BJJ concepts, such as guard passing or establishing mount. These techniques will also include applicable self-defense techniques in relatable situations.

The final part of this class is either situational(specific) training or sparring, called rolling in BJJ. At this point, newer inexperienced students are asked to sit, watch, and learn and there are no expectations for them to roll at this point.
